Founded in 1972 by Helmut Gollner, Carina Organics is a North Vancouver Apothecary House offering outstanding organic hair and body-care with exclusively natural, impeccably researched formulas. Now a father and son operation (Helmut is joined by son Anthony), Carina Organics strives to provide only the best and safest products, handmade in their workshop, which is nestled in the Park and Tilford area.

Here's a little bit about what Carina Organics include in and leave out of their formulas, from Carinaorganics.com:

What goes in: Throughout the year, ingredients such as Alfalfa, Chamomile, Echinacea, Nettle, Red Clover, along with a variety of botanical tree essences, are hand selected and harvested from different regions of the Pacific Northwest's forests and farms. With a distinct focus on holistic remedies, craft, and quality, all Carina products are manufactured by hand on the North Shore of Vancouver, British Columbia.

What's left out: Cortisone, steroids, DEA (diethanolamine), sulfates, salt (sodium chloride), propylene glycol, aluminum, synthetic fragrances, and dyes. With a constantly increasing awareness of the potentially harmful chemical and synthetic ingredients used in health and beauty products, it is becoming more apparent that safer, more natural and organic alternatives should be made available.

If the great care in cultivating ingredients isn't impressive enough, perhaps the fact that Carina Organics haircare works better than any other haircare I have ever tried will convince you. About a month ago, I happened upon a little shop in Vancouver called The Soap Dispensary (we'll be featuring them soon, so keep your eyes peeled.) This was my first introduction to Carina Organics, and while I was intrigued and impressed by the incredibly natural ingredients, I was skeptical about the performance.

As anyone on the Bee Green staff will attest to, I have a whole lotta hair. A whole lotta very long, thick, tangle-prone, frizz-prone, very difficult to manage hair. So naturally, I take my haircare pretty seriously, and I hadn't had much luck in finding a natural deep conditioner to quench my locks the way they needed quenching. As a matter of fact, it had been challenging to find even a mainstream conditioner to bring my hair the hydration it craved.

I ended up purchasing a sample of Carina Organics Nature's Blends Deep Conditioner, and though I had high hopes, I certainly wasn't expecting the performance I got out of this true hair miracle. After just one use, my hair literally felt like silk. Not a tangle in sight, not a hair out of place. No frizz, no dryness, just intensely hydrated strands that, remarkably, I could pass my fingers through without a single catch. I was left with softer, more manageable hair than I have ever experienced, and that's no exaggeration.  This is a true deep conditioner, hands down the best one to ever grace my hair. It's an intense treatment for your tresses, and you're bound to experience soft, touchable, manageable hair after just one application. It's changed the way I see natural haircare and will always, always have a spot in my shower.

I reached out to Anthony himself via email to share my story and express my sincere thanks for creating such an exceptional product. Anthony then extended an invite for me to visit Carina Organics, which I happily accepted. My visit was a great experience. I love to meet the makers of products I adore, and I'm especially  pleased when I can engage with local brands. Anthony was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, asking me questions about my hair and offering suggestions. He sent me off with a bottle of the Deep Conditioner, as well as the following goodies:

Carina Organics Nature's Blends Shampoo:

Carina Daily Moisturizing Shampoo Review

This is a fabulous shampoo for any hair type. It offers a rich lather for a deep-down clean that won't strip your hair of its natural oils, and leaves it moisturized and fresh. My husband and I have very different hair types: mine is dry, his is oily. This shampoo works very well for both of us, and has replaced our separate shampoos.

Ingredients: Aqua, Elaeis guineensis (palm) oil, Cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, Glycerin, Pinus banksiana (pine) extract, Matricaria chamomilla (chamomile) flower extract, Urtica dioca (nettle) leaf extract, Taraxacum officinale (dandelion) leaf extract, Trifolium pratense (clover) flower extract, Citrus Tangerina (Tangerine) Oil, Pyrus malus (green apple) extract, Ananas sativus (pineapple) extract, Olea europaea (olive) fruit oil, Linum Usitatissimum (Linseed) Seed Oil, Cucurbita pepo (pumpkin) seed oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil.

Carina Organics Nature's Blends Daily Light Conditioner:

Carina Daily Light Conditioner Review

When I see the word “light” on a conditioner label, I'm typically inclined to dismiss it as not right for my hair, which is ultra-thick, coarse, and extra thirsty. But after giving this a shot, I'm really impressed. It gives a light but effective conditioning, perfect for regular use. Even when my hair is craving extra moisture, this conditioner does the trick. I use this every other day and the deep conditioner twice a week, and I can honestly say that my hair has never looked better, and has never felt better. Each product listed exudes a lovely natural scent, predominantly of the green apple extract and coconut oil within the formula.

Ingredients: Aqua, Cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, Pinus banksiana (pine) extract, Matricaria chamomilla (chamomile) flower extract, Urtica dioca (nettle) leaf extract, Taraxacum officinale (dandelion) leaf extract, Trifolium pratense (clover) flower extract, Citrus Tangerina (Tangerine) Oil, Pyrus malus (green apple) extract, Ananas sativus (pineapple) extract, Olea europaea (olive) fruit oil, Linum Usitatissimum (Linseed) Seed Oil, Cucurbita pepo (pumpkin) seed oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Beeswax.

I highly recommend Carina Organics. They have something for every hair type, and Anthony is always available with his friendly expert advice. I've always wanted to experience soft and manageable hair, but had pretty much conceded to the fact that it just wasn't going to happen with my hair type. Carina Organics has proved me wrong. Let them prove it to you, too. Supporting a British Columbia independent brand and receiving affordable and natural world-class haircare at the same time? It really is a no-brainer.
