Co-op Driving: Save Money, Save the Environment

It takes me 10 minutes to walk my son to his daycare and 15 minutes to walk to work. Being able to walk to and from work is not only beneficial from a physical standpoint; it’s relaxing and a lot more inexpensive. Despite my busy life as a single mom I prefer to walk to and from work or take the bus. My solution for my Saturday grocery trips to the Red Barn Market or the Shaw Discovery Center for a fun outing is the Car Share Co-op!

Did you know that car sharing significantly reduces emissions that contribute to air pollution and climate change? When you use the car share program each member reduces their driving as much as 50% and every car shared replaces six to eight cars on our roads.

Here are some interesting facts:

  • As of May 2012, the Zipsters has 700,000 members and they offer a fleet of 9,000 vehicles in urban areas and college campuses throughout the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
  • Zipcars are operating in the States, Canada and even Vancouver.  We even have a car share program here in Victoria BC.
  • If you don’t need a car every day, you can save up to $7,000 per year over private ownership. Victoria Car Share Co-op is a convenient and Eco-friendly alternative.
  • Their  fleet is covered with a 24-hour member support line, pre-paid emergency taxis, and BCAA roadside assistance.

Take the step into the right direction today and walk into our local Car Share Co-op and check it out.
