As I was out with my friends for dinner, someone mentioned that Bill Gates was involved in a project working with waterless self-contained composting toilets.
I was very curious and interested, so when I was at home I investigated and found some interesting information.

I found out that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation created a vision a goal to reinvent the toilet. The challenge is to bring affordable and sustainable human waste treatment to third world countries. However 40% of the world’s population has no to flushing toilets. Sustainable human waste treatment should save lives from diarrhea diseases-a figure reported by the gates foundation to be around 1.5 million.

According to Yu-Ling Cheng, the director of the University of Toronto's Centre for Global Engineering, Cheng is leading one of the eight teams that won a grant worth $400,000 so they can turn their toilet proposal design into a prototype within a year. In Seattle next summer all prototypes will be displayed. .

I am very excited to hear if the project will spark some interest with Sun Mar the company who just launched the Excel Composting-Toilet.  Here is some information I found out about the Excel. Sun Mar just has launched the Excel Composting-Toilet, which uses no water and converts waste into useful compost.  The composting toilet is to make your home as environmentally responsible as possible. Solar panels, composting toilets, Bio-fuel jets and other green inventions are such positive steps towards are healthier planet. Together I do believe that we are all making a difference one day at a time.
