Using natural plant based products is one of the best ways to prevent exposure to the toxic chemicals found in many cosmetics and household products. It is so important to read ingredients and to gain an understanding of what we are putting on our skin, in our homes and ultimately in the environment. At Nezza Naturals our guarantee is to use only high quality, plant based ingredients at a very high concentration.

Skin is our biggest organ and is capable of absorbing a surprising amount of what we put on it. Nature has provided such amazing ingredients that are gentle yet powerfully effective and work on multiple levels. Certain plant based ingredients like essential oils not only help with skin care but have positive effects on mood and state of mind.

The first step to a healthier body and environment is understanding which toxic chemicals are commonly found in cosmetics and household products so that they can be avoided. Part of our commitment to our customers is to share this valuable information and help consumers make informed choices about the products they use. The following is an evolving list of chemicals to avoid.

INGREDIENTS TO AVOID!

Parabens (methyl, ethyl, propyl and butyl parabens):

Commonly used as a preservative to extend the shelf life products. They are widely used in cosmetics and body care. They can cause allergic reactions and skin irritations but more importantly have been proven to be hormone mimicking and can disrupt natural levels of estrogen. These synthetic substances have been linked to cancer, autoimmune disorders and lowered sperm counts. Very toxic.

FYI: Nezza Naturals uses only natural preservatives like Rosemary Oleoresin Oil, Vitamin E & Neem Oil. These natural preservatives are safe, healthy and great for the skin!

Sulfates/Sulphates (SLS, Sodium Laurel, Ammonium Laureth, Ammonium Lauryl, TEA Lauryl, etc):

Sulfates are inexpensive synthetic detergents that are used as foaming agents in many products including shampoo, liquid soaps, and toothpaste.  It is known to cause eye irritations, skin rashes, hair loss and many allergic reactions. Make sure you check ingredients for this extremely common ingredient and avoid it!

FYI: Nezza Naturals does not use sulfates at all! We use all natural alternatives for shampoos and liquid soaps. You may notice that these products do not lather as much as products with SLS but will still have the same cleansing effect and will be much healthier.

Petrochemicals (Petrolatum, Mineral oil, Paraffin, Propylene Glycol):

These are substances which are derived from petrochemicals. They are the base of many personal care products. Commonly found in lip balm, deodorant, shampoos, conditioners, lotions and baby care. These are shown to be estrogen mimicking substances which are linked to cancers, allergic reactions, and skin irritation. They do not add any skin care benefit, instead they clog pores and smother the skin. These substances also cause major environmental concern by polluting waters and harming marine life.

Holly Oil (Paraffinum liquidum):

Commonly said to be derived from the 'Holly leaf', it is NOT A PLANT BASED OIL! It is a manmade petroleum based oil that is manufactured in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Canada.  The main ingredient is called 'Paraffinum liquidum' which is a fancy name for mineral oil. It is so popular because it is inexpensive and does not go rancid. When using Holly oil for massage it is like coating your body in plastic - it smothers and clogs pores, causes dermatitis and severe allergic reactions.

FYI: At Nezza Naturals we only use pure, plant based oils that will soothe and nourish the skin. Almost all the carrier oils we use are 100% organic - the only exceptions are fractionated coconut oil and grapeseed oil.

Artificial Colours:

If you come across a product that is bright red, green or blue you should be hesitant to put it on your skin or in your home. Synthetic colours are used in many personal care products to make them attractive but should be avoided entirely. You will recognize them on labels as codes such as FD&C Red No.6. These synthetic colourings have been tested in clinical settings and have been shown to be linked to allergies, general toxicity, childhood illnesses and various types of cancer. Red No.3 is a proven carcinogen and has been banned in the cosmetic industry because it may cause genetic damage.

FYI: At Nezza Naturals we either do not use any colouring or use 100% natural colouring like annatto seeds, french pink clay, chlorella (green algae) or seaweed powder.
